Nothing Petite About It...
This past Tuesday I attended the Rhone Rangers’ “Varietal Nights” event at Brecon Estate. Rhone Rangers is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to promoting American Rhone varietal wine. Each month, the Paso Robles chapter features one varietal, and each participating winery brings an example of that varietal to showcase. Vivant provides cheese, often there is live music, and participants can taste as many examples of one varietal as possible in a two hour time frame. Great fun is had by all.
This time, the focus was on Petite Sirah. Because Pianetta's Petite Sirah is consistently such a hit, I decided to share some of my favorites from the tasting last week:
Brecon Estate 2014 Res Petite Sirah
“Great winter warmer, fireside wine” Visit them daily, 11-5 or buy it here
Alta Colina 2013 Ann’s Block Petite Sirah “An explosion of blackberries on the palate” Visit them daily, 11-4 or buy it here
Ecluse 2014 Petite Sirah Double Gold from San Francisco Chronicle Visit them Friday through Sunday, 11-4. The 2014 vintage is not yet released, but the 2013 is lovely too!
All of these wines are outstanding, but I still believe the Pianetta Petite Sirah is one of the best in the county. Earning 92 and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast for the 2013 and 2012 vintages respectively, we have high hopes for the newly released 2014 vintage. Try it, and tell us what you think!
